This concert celebrates Stephen Pratt’s 80th birthday. He has been the Principal Conductor of Hope Metropolitan Orchestra for many years and has also written a number of pieces for the orchestra, two of which form the first half of the concert. The second of these, More Imaginary Folksongs, includes a significant solo part for the orchestra’s leader, Leo Byrne.

Stephen has chosen Beethoven’s 3^rd Symphony to conclude the evening. Beethoven, an admirer of political freedom, dedicated it to Napoleon but when Bonaparte declared himself Emperor he withdrew the dedication. The published work bore the title ‘Heroic Symphony to celebrate the memory of a great man’.
