2. The Pied Piper
World Premiere

Local composer Mike Stubbs – who sings in the Hope Metropolitan Singers – has created a work for adult and children’s choirs based on the Browning poem The Pied Piper of Hamelin. The tale tells of a city besieged by rats whose saviour, the pied piper, establishes an honest contract with the city aldermen in advance. Once he has rid the city of the plague of rats they renege on the deal. Despite his best efforts to persuade them of their folly and pay his fee they refuse. He makes them pay for their treachery by stealing away their children as easily as he entranced away the rats.
The children will be from Mike’s school choir while the adults will be Hope Metropolitan Singers and friends.
